Usually, the microphones are used to generate relatively low-level signal to high-level signal outputs. A microphone always needs a preamp which amplifies its low-level sound input to the high-level sound output. Most of the audio interfaces have built-in preamps which are good enough to get fantastic music outputs.
In this section, you will come to know about how to connect the audio interface with a microphone. You can connect a microphone to the computer to record your voice with an instrument or any other sound to an audio track.
The user can able to connect a microphone to their computer’s audio input port or to an audio interface to connect to your device. The user can use their computer’s built-in microphone to record the sound.
How to Connect Properly?
Always try to connect your microphone to your device in a proper way. Connect the microphone to an input port of the audio interface via a standard XLR cable. Now connect your USB cable microphone to your personal device’s USB port on your computer. Select the USB microphone as an input of track source.
After connecting it connect an audio interface to your device USB or firewire port. Next, try to link a microphone to the audio interface for recording purpose. Now link an audio mixer or console to an audio interface, and then connect the interface to your device.
If your device has an audio input port, link the microphone to the audio input and then select the built-in input as the track’s input source. On the other hand, you can also use the inbuilt microphone. In such case select an option of a built-in microphone as the input source in the logic pro to prefer the audio output from your device.
How to Select the Input Source?
Once you are connected, you need to select the input source for the track which you want to record. Additionally, you can even turn on monitoring to hear the sound from your microphone as you play on your device.
You have the option to select the input source in the new albums dialog while you create a track. Also, you can choose it from the input slot on the track’s channel strip in the mixer or composer.
Another thing to note while connecting the microphone to the interface is to select the correct input value to get a proper output. Mostly in the present generation, audio interfaces often come with combo jacks.
There are two connectors to be used as a single pack as the outer part is an XLR jack and the hole is located on the centre as a TRS jack. The XLR part is specially used for the microphones. The TRS part is either use for line sources or instruments but not designed for the microphones.
So whenever you buy a microphone cable, you need to make sure that it is female to XLR male connection. You can able to access the microphone preamp only through the XLR inputs to get connected quickly.
